El Paso Times editor resigns from paper

The editor of the El Paso Times has steppeddown, officials at the newspaper announced Tuesday.
Dionicio "Don" Flores, executive vice president and editor at the paper, had run the paper since 1993. His staff was told about theresignation during a newsroom meeting Tuesday morning. A successorwas not immediately named.
Flores, who was not in the office, did not immediately return atelephone message left at his El Paso home seeking comment.
Media inquiries were referred to publisher Ray Stafford, who alsowas not in the office Tuesday and could not immediately be reachedby telephone.
Flores, who has been a Texas State University System regent since1999, has previously held editing and management positions at newspapers in Iowa, Arizona, Nevada, California and Texas.
The El Paso Times is owned by Denver-based MediaNews Group. Gannettowns a minority share in the daily newspaper.
